for a cause

Since I moved to Chicago, I was inspired by one of my friends to seek a cause to support. I have worked with so many worthwhile causes in Michigan – American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, Special Olympics, Kalamazoo Community in Schools, Community Advocates, Wright for Kids, Roof Sit, DKA Charities, March of Dimes, The Boys and Girls Club, Big Brother Big Sister, Listening Ear, MSU Safe Place, The Alpha Chi Omega Foundation, and the list goes on. Since I can’t do ALL of those anymore, sadly, I have to pick just one. I searched for a cause that I could really relate to, that would mean something to me on a personal level and something that I can actively support.

I stumbled upon an article about the Just Like You Foundation, begun by Chicago author and philanthropist Robert Kroupa. The primary objective of the Foundation is to educate people from an early age to accept, appreciate and celebrate the similarities and differences in all of us.

You can read the article that I stumbled upon here that speaks about the Just Like You Foundation and the various charity groups that the purchase of the book will benefit.

Although I can support Just Like You at a local level, I chose this particular cause for the opportunity to speak out about Anti-Bullying and Suicide Prevention. Some of my closest friends and family have been directly affected by both bullying and suicide and what really gets me is that it is 100% preventable.

As time goes on, I’ll add more here and incorporate articles about suicide prevention and anti-bullying efforts, but for now, this page will serve as my official “declaration.”
